Anyone have an opinion on REED inspection tools. I’m working towards becoming an inspector and trying to get my ducks in a roll and what brands you guys are using for tools of the trade.
You don’t need all that stuff. Start with a good flashlight, your eyes, and a three light tester and a 12 way screwdriver. Add a non contact voltage sensor. At a later date if you need it add a moisture sensor and a non contact thermometer. As your company takes off you can add tools or services as you see fit.
Those tool assortments do not include ladders or software. You need to start out slow and spend a minimum amount of money. Fancy test equipment will not make you a better inspector.
What bib said, as 40% of new inspectors fail in the first year. And 70% by year three. Save your money, you are going to need it to eat and pay your bills for 3 years. This is why most all software companies now are pay as you go or monthly. As they know you won’t be at it long. Especially with the new NAR rules.
I agree with Bob and the others. You will need a camera or smartphone for your software and you probably already have the smartphone.
As soon as you can get a 360° camera and take a pic of each room as a “service”. Mine has saved my bacon a time or two.
Good luck.
