Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit Schedule (RNMC) Sunlight

Resistant Aboveground

The marking on the conduit identifies the schedule,
use of, and type of RNMC. Some older types of PVC
had white and black labels for Schedule 80, and
yellow and black for Schedule 40

Be sure to understand that in many cases, where
subjected to physical damage that Schedule 40
may not be allowed, instead Schedule 80
would be required.

Driveways, alleys, sides of, and front and
rear of buildings, etc.

To add to Joe’s post.

NM can only be protected by schedule 80. That said I and others do not fail this where it is not subject to damage. In a house, the basement, I will accept 40 even though 80 is required.
