Good Afternoon Everyone,
I have been in the construction industry for 25+ years and have seen some horrifying accidents. Safety around any types of machinery and electrical sources, should never be taken for granted, they can be dangerous! That’s why taking any sort of safety course can only be beneficial to anyone!
Hi Folks. Answering the question of what I believe to be the most important factor in maintaining my safety. I believe that the proper safety gear and equipment will be the most important factor in keeping myself safe and injury free. Equally important is maintaining a mindset of safety and foreseeing dangerous situations before it’s too late to prevent them.
After getting through the first of the required courses, it’s apparent that common sense is your greatest ally. No one wants an inspector that doesn’t have the basics on inspections or safety.
What Ive learned from this course was to always be aware of the many safety hazards involved with home inspection from the roof to the crawl space.
Beginning ‘Safe Practices for Home Inspectors’ Course:)
The single most important factor for Inspector safety is awareness. Complacency is the most dangers attribute an Inspector can have. Secondly I would say is common sense.
Hello everyone ,
I Have two areas that were really brought to my action in the safety course first and foremost is ladder safety and how lax we get after years of using
such a basic tool all the time.
Second how important it is to be capable of identifying the proper PPE for the job at hand and using as it should be used " it is our health that is at risk".
Greetings,
Safety Course Essay: The important factors regarding safety during home inspection is knowlege of dangers, knowlege of safe practices to mitigate risks, and knowlegde of actions (first-aid, etc) to take should an accident occur. Avoiding a potential risk is a best practice but if an unforeseen event occurs, being prepared to handle it is a must.
safe practices for home inspectors is a very informative section. a lot of times safety gets taken for granted because of complacency. we get used to things and miss the obvious. reoccurring training is the best defense, keeps it top of mind like a reflex. working safe is proactive not reactive.
Zero harm in workplaces.
Be aware of your environment.
The most important factors in safety is to prevent yourself and others from harm. The other factor is to prevent the house from harm.
The most important thing in working safely is a person’s attitude. A n inspector must stay focused on what he/she is doing at all times. All accidents can be avoided! If you are in a too much of A hurry, you will make a mistake. That mistake could be an accident or forgetting something. When I rush, I either scrape my knuckles, bruise something, or do something silly. When I take my time, in a hurried way, I always do a much better job.
Good Info, Thanks.
Has anyone used or have considered using drones for roof inspection?
Situational Awareness- Be aware of your surroundings, identify possible and potential problems, and have contingency plans for said problems.
Common Sense- Its a God given talent and as they say “A little goes a long way”
Training, training and continued training- This will keep me current and fresh. The more I read over or train on something the more I retain it.
Family- Number one reason for maintaining my safety. I want to go home to them every night!
Ghosting- When you come across this as an inspector, what recommendation to you give the home owner/buyer?
Drones- I find this to be a very viable option to tripod cameras, tall structures and unsafe roofs. The only concern I had was getting my drone stuck on the roof. Research has shed light on drones that return to their launch point when power failure or remote failure is sensed.
Another test closer!!! I hope I never have to encounter any animals in a crawl space!!!
