Larry, I recognize the jack in this picture as I have one just like it. Around here they are refered to as "barn jacks" or "railway jacks". Mine is rated for 20 tons.

Larry,
I’ve seen that front door grate design before. Scooby Doo and Shaggy used it to trap one of the Giggling Green Ghosts, but they covered it with a doormat first.
He had a 4x6 center beam with 4x6's running out to the rafter tails at the eave walls. But the connections...one 6" lag bolt through the center beam and into the butt end grain. And where there were two end to end, he toe nailed them to the notched center beam. Not much tension strength. ![icon_sad.gif](upload://nMBtKsE7kuDHGvTX96IWpBt1rTb.gif)

I have always known them as barn Jacks as well which i have had many in my liftime as well, except right now when I need them for workining on my own house. I use to use them quite a bit in upstate N.Y. when i was a restoration contractor, but left them all behind in NY.
I currently live in central Massachusetts and am getting ready to start work on our antique that we just purchased. I always start my restorations with the foundations and structual components of the house.
Well problem being that i no longer have any of my old wonderful barn jacks and don't know where i might find them for purchase.
I stumbled across this forum while looking for them and thought heh what the heck why not ask here . Worth a shot for sure.
So if you may know of some or where i might need to start my search I would greatly appreciate your help.
