Septic Dye and Frozen Ground

Does a septic dye test work when the ground is frozen? It would seem to me that with frozen ground conditions even if there was a problem, the dye would be trapped underground.

Of course, the breakout is not the only indication of a system failure. The septic tank cover should be removed or at least the cleanouts opened to measure the level in the tank and the observation ports opened at the drain field ,if they are present. The dye test generally finds only the obvious failures of the drain field.
