So what exactly holds that chimney pipe up? Oh, I see.

Thought I’d pass this one on. This pipe:

Was found in an old stucco chimney chase, above a kitchen. The bottom part of the chimney had been removed and the ceiling refinished. This clay pipe, weighing over a hundred pounds was held by three metal tabs on the metal chimney. The metal chimney was held up by two nails. In earthquake country.

(The work was aparently done by a licensed contractor, but on a rush job for Realtor, who instructed the contractor not to obtain permits. There was no physical access to inspect this, it required removing the nailed on chimney cap).
