It’s a poor mans whole house sound system.
The idea is not without any merit. I installed the interior
alarm sounder in my house in the return for two reasons,
one, it allows transmission of the sound throughout the whole
house, and two, lessens the chance of someone tampering with
the sounder to disable it.

A sub woofer for low frequency and the passive air flow it generates is best placed in the bass ment. This type of installation gives you best return on your investment.
