Sprinkler control power cable

I see what appears to be speaker wire used to extend the power cable to sprinkler systems from time to time. I usually call it out as a problem. I just wanted to get some feed back on this.

It’s low voltage after that transformer.

I would not call it out as long as the wire is secure and the splice is done in a workman like manner.

Looks like lamp (or ‘zip’) cord which is adequate for the low voltage service. Not very pretty, but not really hazardous either. However, depending on the distance of the run, voltage drop could be an issue for the sprinkler system. I would probably suggest that the transformer be relocated to a receptacle adjacent to the sprinkler controller.
