Stranded wire is acceptable assuming that it is installed properly, such as in conduit and as Carla pointed out, it is sized properly for the circuit it is serving and the fill rate for the conduit is not exceeded. You would also want to make sure the devices that are being used are rated for stranded wire versus solid wire.
