Student Discussion: How to Perform Roof Inspections Course

I’ve been on most construction aspects of the home, not roofs from the inside. Eyes are opening now

I believe you can find that on the InterNachi website. I found it for South Carolina on their website.

I am new to the course and excited about the program!

same bro! i was so happy to see that walking the roofs is not required!! big relief

I am just starting this course. Roofing is one of the topics that has so much information. Probably will have to review several times before I really get good at identifying all the key points. It is much more than just looking for visible signs on the shingles or roof covering itself.

I see a mixture of both in my area (Southwest Iowa) We get extreme cold and heat depending on the time of year. My home when built in 2005 had an open valley as you described with a metal exposed valley. We had a major hail storm back in 2023 and when the roof was replaced they took out the metal valley and replaced with asphalt closed valley as described in this section of the training.

Same here, I have done a couple mock inspections and have learned so much already. I am excited to continue learning.

I am inspecting my roof for the final. I have learned so much in this course that I have probably been overthinking it. Keep pushing forward team.

Hello to all!

I’m a brand new students just getting started on my 120 pre licensing course. Looking forward to working and collaborating with all of you!

Starting my first class, Roof Inspections! How long does it take everyone to complete this course?

Starting the course now.

Brand new to inspections starting my very first course how did your final go Hewitt?

Welcome, I’m sure you will be a great addition to the team and may your journey be fruitful

I think there is a small error on the “Roof and Pitch” page, where it says:

“Using the illustration above and information we just learned about slope and pitch, we can see that a 2:12 slope can be expressed as 1/12 pitch,…”

Shouldn’t it be 1/6 pitch? The earlier text mentions:

“For example, given a roof with a rise of 4 feet and a span of 24 feet, the pitch is “1 to 6” pitch, which can be expressed as the fraction of 1/6.”

Beginning the course now!! Excited to learn more about Roof Inspections!

It was really helpful to use lots of google image searches and youtube videos to supplement the coursework. Also, I wish I figured out earlier that hovering over the pictures would bring up text comments on the images!
