Spacing of Convenience Outlets
Kitchen Countertops spacing of outlets shall be spaced 2 feet from the Sink at either side and 4 feet on center after that so that from any one outlet you are within 2 feet of the Outlet next to you. If the sink is at a 45-degree angle (or other angle) and the space behind the sink is over 18" in depth to the wall an Outlet shall be placed there.
Walls in common rooms such as Living and Sleeping Rooms Outlets shall be placed 6 feet apart which equates to 6feet and 12 feet apart so that nowhere in between will you be outside of 6 feet away from any one outlet. A wall is counted as wall space if it is 24 inches wide or more.
Where a Floor Outlet is used to accommodate the 6’ x 12’ Rule as a Doorway dividing the Floor space up disrupting the rule the Outlet shall be place within 18 inches of the doors length from the Door threshold line and 18 inches out so as to be within 6’ of the wall length Outlets.

In reference to writing assignment #1 of the 2021 International residential code exam study course: What is the purpose and scope of the International Residential Code?
The purpose of the International Residential Code is to regulate the broad spectrum of construction activities associated with residential buildings and structures. The scope of the IRC applies to detached one and two family dwellings not more than three stories above the grade plane in height with a separate means of egress and accessory structures not more than 3 stories above grade plane in height.

  • What clearance is mandated between combustible insulation and recessed luminaires?:
    The minimum clearance is 3 inches, except where heat producing devices are listed for lesser clearances.
  • In what manner must safety glazing be identified? Multipane assemblies?:
    Glazing must be identified in hazardous locations and shall be acid etched, sandblasted, ceramic-fired, laser etched, embossed or otherwise indicated in a way that can not be removed without being destroyed.
    In multi-pane assemblies with panes less than 1 square foot in size shall have not less than 1 pane identified.
  • How many egress doors from a dwelling are required? Under what conditions is an additional egress door required? What is the minimum required size of an egress door?:
  • Not less than one egress door is required per dwelling. Additional doors are required for additional dwelling units. Minimum dimensions of an egress door are 32 inches wide by 78 inches tall

The minimum height a masonry chimney is required to terminate is 2 feet higher than any portion of a building within 10 feet but shall be not less than 3 feet above the highest point where the chimney passes through the roof.

An appliance with an ignition source required to be located 18 inches above a floor in a garage. An Exception to this is if the appliance is listed as flammable-vapor-ignition resistant.

The maximum permitted length of a clothes dryer exhaust duct is 35 feet not including the transition duct. That allowable length is reduced depending on the number of, size, and degree of bends in the duct.

  • What type of thermostat is required? How many thermostats must be provided?
    At lease one programmable thermostat must be provided for each separate heating an cooling system. The thermostat shall include the capability of having different set points on a daily or weekly schedule.

A natural draft appliance vent shall not terminate less than 5 feet above the highest connected appliance outlet.

The maximum permitted length for an appliance fuel connector serving a range or domestic clothes dryer is determined by complying with ANSI Z21.69/CSA 6.16 or by means of the Item 1 of Section G2422.1. Other appliance connectors are limited to a minimum of 6 feet in length.

The difference between live loads and dead loads. Live loads reference temporary or movable weight such as furniture, snow or vehicles in a structure. Dead loads reference permanent weight that acts on a building such as metal framing, concrete slab or roofing materials.

The minimum required diameter for fixture tail pieces serving sinks, dishwashers, laundry tubs, bathtubs, and similar fixtures is a minimum of 1- 1/2 inches and for bidets, lavatories, and similar fixtures a minimum of 1-1/4 inches.

A water heater is required to be installed in a pan when water leakage from a tank will cause damage.
The pan can be galvanized steel, aluminum, plastic or other approved materials. It should be 1 1/2 inches deep and a size that will receive dripping or condensation from the tank. The pan shall drain by an indirect waste pipe of not less than 3/4 inch diameter.

The purpose of a plumbing vent piping system is to allow air into the system, to create proper pressure to allow waste and water to move through the plumbing system.

Chapter 4: Lots shall be graded to drain water away from foundation walls. The grade shall be at least 6" within the first 10"

  • How high above a floor in a garage is an appliance with an ignition source required to be located?
    Because of possible gasoline leaks and combustible vapors on the floor of a garage, any appliance with an ignition source needs to be located at least 18" above the ground.

The service disconnecting means must be located at a readily accessible location either outside of a building or inside nearest the point of entry of the service conductors. Each service shall have only one disconnecting means unless installed using one or more of the methods specified in Sections E3601.7.1 through E3601.7.3 In all cases, the maximum number of disconnecting means for any service shall not exceed six and the multiple service disconnecting means shall be grouped.

  • In a conflict , the specific requirement will be employed. Because it’s “specific” to that situation. In the rare instance that two conflicting codes apply, then the most restrictive will be employed.
