OK, I realize I should probably know this. Should the drain line for a sump pump have a bleed off hole, or weep hole, 6 inches or so from the pump itself? The last 2 days, I’ve had 2 sump pumps, and when I’m testing them, there’s a stream of water shooting out of the drain pipe back into the pit. Does this protect against freezing in the rest of the line or is this a defect? Discharge ultimately runs to back yard. Thanks for any answers. Sorry, no photos.

Yes this is proper so the pump does not become air locked .
You could have a time when the water evaporates from the sump hole and when water
again comes in the pump is full of air and it just might not pump.
This small hole allows the pump to fill with water and self prime.
