Heat pump split system, air handler in garage. A supply vent was installed in the plenum to cool or heat garage. Is this okay, seems I’ve read somewhere that it is wrong, but don’t remember why.

It is wrong to have a supply or return register in the garage. It opens a path for the fumes from the garage to enter the living area.
