I’d like to hear comments and or guesses as to what this is in the pictures.

The home was built in 1944. The home is located in Ypsilanti MI, near Ann Arbor MI. The home has a basement and is in a normal residential neighborhood. Good Luck!

Very odd. What’s the diameter of the pipe (roughly)?

Inspecting for the unexpected

Chuck,

With that cable and pulley system on top and the rusting at the base of this tunnel, it appears to be a drying tunnel of some sort.

Maybe tobacco.

Ok guys, not going to make this more dramatic then it is. Stuart got it right. This is an indoor shooting range.

At the end of the tunnel is a steel plate angled at about 45'. The tunnel is pitched down away from you. The cable system that David pointed out was used for sending the target down to the end of the tunnel, which was about 25'. You can see the clip for this at the top of the photo. Also the piping next to the cable is electrical conduit for a light at the end of the tunnel.

The funny thing that we all laughed about was the obvious bullet hole through some furnace ducting where I guess they shot from. The echo in the basement must have been loud as hell. I'm guessing that these days it would be against the law, not sure on that though. Kind of fun, and the buyers got a kick out of it.
