Dan It probally would not have made any difference if the pan was shiney or not the camera was probally not rated for that high of temp and you saturated out, you need to quit pissing on the carpet it will smell over time at your age you should be house trained by now;-)
I have not attended John M’s course so cannot really make an honest opinion but my general thinking would be that using an IR camera for moisture intrusion where one is not concerned with specific temps but more in the area of patterns would be where John’s class would be benificial. Over on the electrical and mech side one needs to be concerned with specific temps and how to properly obtain them and determine what is normal for what one is scanning
