It’s only the Federal Reserve and government who inflate the money supply (cause inflation):
Don’t overlook excessive regulation. This prices some right out of the market. less product, more demand (dollars), equals inflation.
So the inflation is another indicator of a tyrannical government gone rogue?
CPI data not collected until 1917, so would be curious to see how your chart estimated the period before that.
The source is listed - look it up!
Maybe I will. Was thinking maybe the OP knew. It’s not data from the BLS.
And, it’s not BS data. lol
One thing we know for sure, it’s cherry picked data to try and make a point. As the basket of goods in 1775 wouldn’t contain anywhere near the same items as in 1917 (when data started being collected) and of course today the basket is much different as well.
The natural state in a capitalist system is for prices to go down
And a worthy point to make it is.
…and not BS.
No joke, the struggle is real.
That implies that the data is in some way inaccurate. All data is “cherry picked.” There’s no point in using data that doesn’t support what you’re trying to say.
CPI is cherry picked data anyway as the list changes to reflect the changing economy.
Gross National Happiness is a term coined by His Majesty the Fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck in the 1970s. The concept implies that sustainable development should take a holistic approach towards notions of progress and give equal importance to non-economic aspects of wellbeing.
CPI data was not gathered or calculated from 1775 through 1912. So it is someone’s guesstimate, using an unknown formula and an unknown basket of goods. The chart is labeled Consumer Price Index, yet shows data from before the CPI existed. So that should be a clue to question it. Not saying it is entirely wrong, but just need more explanation for the data. Maybe if things get slow I’ll read the Reinhart/Rogoff 2009 paper to see if they explain and justify their methodology.
Maybe the basket of goods is just horse feed.
Sure it was. I personally have ads from both eras and we have property sale records. There was basically no inflation for 150 years. Why? Because there was no one to inflate the money supply.
Maybe the chart should be labeled “inflation” and not CPI then. CPI is a commonly used indicator of inflation, but CPI and inflation are not the same thing.
I knew already that once I did a bit of research on the source (Rogoff-Reinhart) that it would come back as faulty.
“This week, here’s what we found out: that very convincing data that Reinhart and Rogoff presented was wrong. Their research was messily done with spreadsheet errors.”
Justin is trying his best to put on his big boy pants, but I think he has bitten off more than he can chew.
Interesting admission here. This is where Justin attempted to hurt Trump politically and hurt Americans.
“It was the fact that we put tariffs on bourbon and Harley-Davidsons and playing cards and Heinz ketchup and cherries and a number of other things that were very carefully targeted because they were politically impactful to the president’s party and colleagues,” Trudeau said.
However, we have seen this type of reaction before by Trump. And it is not going to end well for Canadians.
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all! DJT,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Imagine if Trump had a smidgeon of support from legacy media. Regardless, it appears the public is moving on from the media’s constant knee-jerk barrage against all things Trump.
Households expecting their financial situation to be better a year from now jumped to 37.6%, an increase of about 8 percentage points from October, the central bank’s survey of approximately 1,300 heads of households showed. That was the highest reading since February 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
