They just don't listen...

My morning inspection today was for a widow who now has had 4 inspections in the past 6 months. Three of them being with me. She can’t make up her mind on anything, let alone buy a house. I’m not complaining, she likes me and calls me first when she needs an inspection.

She is absolutely preoccupied about mold. The last inspection I did for her I walked into the master bathroom and found her pulling up the carpet around the shower. ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) I quickly explained to her that she cannot do such things because it is not her house and that goes way beyond the scope of an inspection.

So today I'm at another house for her and am about to go into the attic. She says "I'll be right behind you". ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) I explained that it is very dangerous to go in the attic, that I'm experienced and insured and she is not, blah, blah... She said she was already in the attic the first time she looked at the house. I still insisted that she not follow me in. So I go up and I'm about 10 feet into the attic and I can hear her coming up the ladder. I call out to her to not come any further. The next thing I hear is a crash. ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) She tried to enter the attic and instead of stepping onto the joist she stepped onto the sheetrock. ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) Thankfully it was with only one foot and she didn't fall through. She immediately got out. She put a nice hole in the garage ceiling and has a lovely souvenir bruise on her leg. She apologized to me for not listening. I told her the important thing is that she didn't get seriously injured. What the hell was she thinking?!?!?!

The home owner wasn't too concerned about the damage and the client said she was going to buy the house and she would repair it later.

Sometimes I feel like I'm teaching kindergarten the way people don't listen an act when I'm on an inspection.

Yep…I agree…two places clients don’t get to follow me. Roof and Attic. For simply that reason. Glad she didn’t get hurt!!

This reminds me again of the two guys who flipped breakers on after I told them not to. Both were classic “A” type personalities, bulls in a china shop. Thank goodness nothing bad happened either time. It really makes one appreciate the calm, rational clients.
