This just in: Inflation comes in hotter than expected.... just as I predicted

I am with State Farm. My insurance went up some, but no where near 20%

Yeah, but you are in Colorado, correct? You guys play a lot of smash up derby out there, lol. My daughter just moved back here from Colorado and is shocked at how low our insurance rates are. Of course that is countered by our high property taxes she was not used to paying in CO.

The other factor in our insurance is our high incidence of hail. It could be that insurance companies here made the adjustment upward some years ago more on the rate of hail damage than cost of services and goods. You should see my truck. It looks like a maniac with a ball pein hammer went over it. I bought the Pathfinder I use for work with the insurance check.
And BTW, our property taxes are taking a monster (roughly 40%) hike this year. Our Colorado leaders treat California like their inspiration. There are going to be a lot of shocked home owners in the near future here.

Everyone make a note; these folks are competent and lack any political bias. Breaking the trend in both categories of any other federal agency. Thank gawd!

Don’t believe your own eyes; believe what we tell you.

Look at the silver lining for once, no?

Keep up the good fight Brian! It’s about time someone exposes this crooked Bureau of Labor Statistics. They are clearly ruining the country and probably all the employees are laughing and laughing while being paid with your tax dollars.

You can be as snarky as you wish. I never called them crooked. I said they were incompetent and biased. And like many things from this administration at high levels, we are not to believe our eyes.

Of course, we know where this is going

Sorry if I do not take things from the Washington Disney Land at face value.

Yes, we know. You don’t like this administration.

Biden can’t cancel debt. He can only make someone else pay it.

I did not like the last one either. Trump or Biden, there is only so much they can do. It just so happens that this administration is fully supporting the progressive agenda, whereas the last was not. Consequently, they attempted to destroy him. I think you are naive, and you think I am just anti-Biden. I believe the entire federal bureaucracy is out of control and is self-serving and dishonest.

On the policy level, I disagree with nearly 90% of his agenda. His policies are published, so I can read them line by line.

What’s the 10% you agree with?

Ok, now that everyone has chimed in on the CPI release last week, let’s look at the PPI, which was also released last week. PPI is another inflation indicator.

“Producer prices tell us that inflation is not worsening, yet,” said Christopher Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS. “Policymakers can remain vigilant as they await more data on where inflation is heading next. Tamer producer prices may spell some relief for consumers in coming months.”

The producer price index for final demand rose 0.2% last month after increasing by an unrevised 0.6% in February, the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the PPI would gain 0.3%.

Here are a few. (I copied and pasted some to get it right.)

The Office of Gun Violence Prevention. $286 million to help student wellness and school mental health professionals. It’s not much money, but I like it.

The CFPB in January released a long-awaited proposal to cut the fees that large banks and credit unions can charge consumers for overdrawing their accounts. Good stuff.

HHS issued its recommendation in August 2023 that marijuana should be moved from the most prohibitive level on the Controlled Substances Act (Schedule I) to a middle category (Schedule III).

Regarding alcohol consumption in America.

Seattle Leads Largest Metros in Alcohol Spending | LendingTree

Pull quote:

  • Since 2000, alcohol spending as a percentage of expenditures has only been lower once than it was in 2022. In 2022 (the latest year available), alcohol accounted for just 0.80% of American household spending — the lowest since 0.78% in 2020 (the first full year of the COVID-19 pandemic). In 2000, this figure was 0.98%. In this period, annual alcohol spending rose from $372 (2000) to $583 (2022). So households are spending more annually on alcohol but less as a percentage of their total expenditures.
  • The oldest Americans spend the least on alcohol. Americans 77 and older spend just 0.53% of their total expenditures on alcohol. Of note, Americans 25 or younger, 26 to 41 and 58 to 76 each are the same — 0.88% of their total expenditures on alcohol. Americans 42 to 57 spend 0.71%.
  • Among the demographics examined, the biggest source of alcohol spending was single men who earn six figures. Single men who make $100,000 or more a year put an average of 2.20% of their total spending toward alcohol. Interestingly, single men who make less than $15,000 a year were closest, at 1.67%.

Good article don’t know how accurate but seems plausible, bonus points for no click-bait, or was my ad blocker working exceptionally well?

Interest rates up, wages up, retail sales up… Buy gold or sell gold?

$2200? In what universe. That would barely cover a handful of the hookers that seemed like a bright idea when drunk. Not to mention the looting that takes place when the hookers drug you and ransack the place looking for coke.

Not from any personal experience, of course.

No, but it does sound like a glorious way to blow a few Gs and really reach out and soundly tap on your personal bottom. You’ll probably even catch the herp, so every once in a while, when it flares up, you’ll get reminded of that fateful night.

I am ridiculously conservative. I am considering gloriously blowing a few Gs on a cast and blast trip to Argentina.
