That’s a bad tip.

Unless it’s a gate valve, they should be fully open only.

Interesting can show some facts on this .

I think you may have that backwards. Gate valves should be fully open or shut to prevent wear on the gate or seat. Ball valves can be operated partially open because the ball is hardened SS.

Actually, what I had in mind was a globe (not gate) valve.

They are identified with an arrow showing direction of flow and they are used to control flow.

I believe that ball valve can also be used to control flow but are not as efficient or long lasting.

\You could be correct , My last home 22 years ,
this home 11 years and no problems on 4 bath rooms.
Still working fine .
