" It is a claim that has dominated the mainstream media but appears to have little actual evidence backing it up. A Consumer Product Safety Commission spokesperson told Fox News Digital that there “is a significant body of work” on the supposed danger of gas stoves, [but refused to cite any sources]".
“A significant body of work” that’s right up there with “A consensus of scientists”
Absolutely! In a tight home with a blower door result around 2 Air Changes per Hour at -50pa, only one or two bath vents at 40 cfm or so per each, along with the dryer, will depressurize the home past the depressurization limit of a gas or wood fireplace with outside air source, and even past the depressurization limit of a closed combustion furnace or water heater. Makeup air is required.
Install a 400 cfm downdraft kitchen fan and you’re definitely exceeding the depressurization limits of the furnace and water heater.
Test is a Combustion Appliance Zone test; do a you tube search to understand what it is.
I agree with this and do call it out. Why are we not when CO detectors installed in homes do. Sustained levels above 150ppm will set off a co alarm. Sustained levels above 70ppm are proven to be harmful over time(headaches, nausea). If we are able to record levels coming off of a gas appliance that has now ventilation as proven on the picture and that I have recorded in similar situations myself. Why would we not call it out? I understand that levels may not be sustained for hours at a time but still good information for the client I believe.
I understand, but he quoted it out of context. The quote “recommendation to ventilate the room” was part of a larger sentence that was referring to what manufacturers instruction’s usually recommend.
I was just curious. Doesn’t seem that opening a window or 2 in the dead of winter isn’t something most would do. Right up there with opening a window in a bathroom without a fan.
Of course with a bathroom you’re letting heat out along with whatever shower moisture. At least with the gas wall heater you’re generating more heat to compensate.
The health scare is just that a scare. It’s all about clamping down on natural gas. The government wants to control your fuel use. Just use electric everything is the solution and we will wind up with odd and even day electrical usage because they are not building the infrastructure.
Natural gas use by cooking equipment in the US is so low, it would seem like quite the waste of time to pursue this just to advance the green energy policy. Especially when the biggest chunk of the natural gas used in the US is for generating electricity.
