Around here they’re called transom “lights”. Winders are them thar thangs that hep ya look out yonder.

Never heard them referred to as lights…lights are things you turn on that run on lectric.

I grew up next to a glass works and they always called them LITES .
I believe this was the way they spelt it to . I think it comes from England .
Many places still call them lites example below .

I’ve heard them referred to as lites when they are interior windows…like borrowed lites.

A transom is the “lite” above the door in the interior of a building that opens to allow for the flow of air in the room .It was widely used in Florida and La. at one time. (before A/C aiwebs_011.gif

some doors are installed with a “side lite” set up. a narrow “window” that goes the hight of the door and is usualy about 8’’ wide. i’ve never seen these lites open. it the ones on top are transom lites i’ve not seen them open either. but i’ve seen the ones on interior doors open. is this what were all getting confused about… or just me? icon_redface.gif
