TREC template help

I understand that the template is set up to map narratives to the correct location on the 7-5 report form. I was wondering, however, if subcategories can be added.

I would like to break up all my “wall” narratives to make them more searchable in the field.
For example, can I make subcategories under Walls (Interior & Exterior) such as:

  • Masonry Siding

  • Stucco

  • Fiber Cement Siding

  • Wood Siding

  • Interior Walls

I have multiple narratives (100+ total) that pertain to those subcategories & it sure would be a beating to scroll through all of those narratives each time because they have to be grouped into 1 big category.

Thanks in advance!

This is the most frequently used contract form. It is used for the resale of residential properties that are either a single family home, a duplex, a tri-plex or a four-plex. It is not for use for condominium transactions, new homes being sold by a builder, or farm and ranch properties.

Hey there, Brandon, I’m running into the same issue. I’d like to break it apart but can’t quite figures out how and or if that is okay to do. I know the final report has to be in the TREC REI 7-6 format but don’t know if it is possible to section things out. What reporting software do you use and have you been able to figure out this issue in the last few years?

Welcome to our forum, Andrew!..enjoy participating.

Andrew,
I use Spectora, hence the Spectora forum category. I do not separated or subcategories anything different than the Trec form with the exception of Smoke & CO alarms. You can make sub categories within the TREC form if you choose, as long as things are renumbered properly.

What I was asking was how to label narratives to be more searchable or easier to find when scrolling. I have achieved this by writing my narrative titles with appropriate key words.
For example:
GFCI- Not present at garage outlets
GFCI- Not tripping
GFCI- Reset button damaged
or
Siding- Loose (fiber cement)
Siding- Loose (wood)

All my narratives are relatively specific & I do not write general crap like “Something is wrong, pay another professional to evaluate & tell you what I should have in the first place”.
Many of my narratives are similar but have different example graphics & references from applicable authoritative sources depending upon current standards and/or the material manufacturer requirements.

Brandon, ran across your post here, since your using spectora, and from Texas,
I perused your website to look at one of your sample reports. Can I pick your brain on how your adding this footer to your pdf of your report?

I’ve been looking all over trying to find where to add the line with a place holder of {{CLIENT_NAME}} to get that on mine, going so far as reaching out using the little green button and talking to support, but got no where. Thank you

LB, that footer is from my old report software that doesn’t even exist anymore. The footer on the TREC form in Spectora does not allow for this type of customization.
I’m glad you brought this up because it reminds me that I need to update the sample reports on my website.
