Trump could fire every employee of the government tomorrow and that act would only decrease the budget by 15%

I believe it should be done, I just don’t believe it is going to be done. I believe government will grow bigger, spending will increase, and the debt will be larger under Trump.

That’s because wild swings with a machete are not what is needed, and not what will likely work. Musk and the other guy are threatening to flail a machete about in order to make a splash on social media. But when it comes to brass tacks, it will be very difficult to get Congress to go along with much of it. Killing government programs is not good for re-election.

IMO it would never work, at least not without a total breakdown of society.

I agree, we’ve all seen this show before, and not just from Trump.

All the talk of downsizing the government, draining the swamp, ending the fraud and abuse and prosecuting those committing fraud, etc. etc., and then the show always seems to end the same way with the government getting bigger as the deficit and debt continue to grow.

Until we get the money out of government, outlaw Lobbyists, and enact term limits for Congress, nothing will change, so nothing’s going to change.

And get the government out of our money. Shut down the Federal Reserve. It’s a scam.

I agree on the money out of government, governement out of our money, part

But I’m not sure if shutting down the Federal Reserve would work, without regulation there would be an implosion of the banking system, been there done that once already and it wasn’t pretty.

Peter Schiff warns Musk and Ramaswamy’s Department of Government Efficiency ‘has no authority.’ What he says Trump should do if he actually wants to cut federal agencies | Moneywise

“Even if the Trump administration actually proposes some of the DOGE recommendations, they mean nothing unless Congress votes to pass them, which it won’t,” Schiff explained.

He argued that “no Democrats” are likely to support eliminating any government department or agency, with the possible exception of the Space Force. This leaves any such proposal relying heavily on Republican support in the House, requiring over 98% of GOP votes by his estimates — a scenario Schiff calls “nearly impossible” due to the number of “RINOs” (Republican in name only) and those representing swing districts.

The Senate, he noted, would also be unlikely to support drastic cuts, as all Republican votes would still fall short of the 60-vote threshold needed to pass such measures.

In other words, this Musk/Ramaswamy thing is all a bunch of bull for the minions to chew on. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out, and if Trump will declare war on the Senate and try to govern by issuing executive orders.

Just another ‘nail in their coffin’!!

Only time will tell. This is still a 50/50 country.

It’s just nice to see it being talked about… finally. Although, I do remember Obama doing the same thing in the honeymoon after he was elected and then doing nothing to work towards a balanced budget once in office. Hoping Trump and his team keep their eye on the ball for longer.

God willing, soon we will see that killing government programs is the only way to reelection. Trump’s DOGE idea is part of his popularity, and he is a populist candidate, which is hard to beat.

Now come the critics and naysayers, which is necessary. I hope we hammer this out and proceed aggressively.

This is a fake news fallacy, if (and hopefully when) we fix our election system the full truth will be known. Paper ballots, same day voting, no machines (let’s even go with the ink on the thumb).

Musk announced that I’m right: Elon Musk says DOGE probably won't find $2 trillion in federal budget cuts

You are right, Nick, because even if he did find the cuts, he’s not the one who would be making the call on what gets cut or not. Congress holds the purse strings and decides what money goes where.

IMO DOGE is nothing more than a bone that Trump tossed to Musk in exchange for the 250 Million Dollar payday Musk gave to the Trump Campaign.

Until money is removed from politics, nothing will change as it’s the lobbyists who line the pockets of those in congress who get top priority, if not the only priority.

^^^^^^^^that says it all.

If we know this and all complain about it…why does it continue?

Because most Federal Politicians say one thing before they’re elected, then do a different thing after they’re in office, the power and the money blinds and consumes most of them.

If those in Congress had term limits, I think it would be different. They all run for the right reasons, but once they’re given the power, for most of them, it becomes all about them.

Sadly, for most of our elected politicians, their first day in office is their first day of raising money for their next election. Term limits would solve that problem.
