I encountered some staining on floorboards in portions of the attic. Built in 2009, 4/6, 7,319 sq ft., all sorts of different roof styles which means you have little attic accesses everywhere. Two particular accesses in one room had staining on the attic flooring. To me it seems like some kind of animal, maybe. Was curious to see if anyone else has seen anything like this. Thanks in advance for the feedback!!
Looks more like roof leaks to me in first pic. Possible rodent staining in the second?
Are you in a cold area? Could be from melting frost in a poorly vented attic if so.
Hey Thomas, that’s what I was initially thinking, but I noticed the stains were in front of the 2x4s and not anywhere else.
Hey Ryan, I’m down in Alabama. Not much frost here. Unless I make the Mrs. mad.
I’m thinking more that it’s roof leaking. Damage to the insulation in the second pic, no signs of rodent poop? Usually rodent stains will show both urine and hard poop evidence.
I didn’t see any rodent droppings.
Anthony,
Stain patterns look to be from rodents and more specifically flying squirrels.
If you enlarge your images, there appears to be small rodent droppings on the plywood decking, some against/under the wall sill plates. Also, the batt fiberglass insulation at the walls has some holes and tears.
My money and best guess would be rodents. Also, it appears someone may have tried to clean up some of the evidence, but they did a poor job lol.
Hope that helps.
