Unusual Support

The column shown apparently is intended to add structural support to the second floor rear wall, which is set back from the 1st floor wall. I noted several issues, the screw jack does not appear to be welded or disabled to prevent movement, not secured to the beam. Also, I thought it should at least be set directly above the center column supporting the beam. The placement of the column may have been a late construction revision. Home built in 2006. Any input would be appreciated.

It looks like it may be one end of a girder truss bearing and, with the wood surrounding it, it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere although mechanical connections are typical there…JMO.

I would ask for blueprints of which I would not expect to find such configuration but such blueprints may lead as to the reasoning why such columns were installed.
(It may also simply have to do with a owner trying to get rid of squeaks)

If it is being used for structural purpose and same is not on blueprints than a SE should be consulted.
