Using 100 breakers on 220 circuits?

On the inspection I did today, the 220 volt circuits had 100 volt breakers. For instance the wire for the water heater was connected to 2 adjacent 30 amp breakers. Same with the range and dryer.

Is there anything wrong with doing that? This is the first time I have seen this.

The breakers need handle ties or replaced with double pole breakers.

Agreed

Thanks. I thought the same but was not sure. As I said, this is the first time I ever saw this done. I almost missed it but then looked back at the panel and realized that there were not enough 220 breakers. That’s when I realized that the circuits were being fed off single pole breakers.

Also make sure wire is correct size, 10 ga. for 30 amp.
