6" Jeff. But I’m sure there are local AHJ mods to that in snow country. Man that looks cold! It was 65 and sunny on the roof I did today.

BTW...it may only be about a 5:12 but I cannot believe the footprints. ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) You wearing crampons?

Jeff

Through roof vent at min. of 6".

Snow-6" above snowline, (10" above roof). Depending if you use IRC or UPC codes in your area. According to Code Check, "Transition to larger diameter 1' below roof".

Hi Jeff,

I want to say 18". Almost sure about that, Gerry would know.

Hi to all,

Carla, thank's for your (misguided ![icon_confused.gif](upload://qv5zppiN69qCk2Y6JzaFYhrff8S.gif) ) confidence.

IRC 3103.1 states that vents in snow areas should be at least 6" above the snow height and a minimum of 10" high. so it's basically a local judgement.

Regards

Gerry

Can anyone tell me why there is a minimum height above the roof? Other than the obvious chilly reason you have up north. (76 degrees today here) icon_biggrin.gif

I apologize for off topic, but…

Good Lord! ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) You a braver man than I Jeff if those are your foot prints. I was on a roof one evening just at sunset, when the dew point turned to freeze point and I almost took a header two stories down! I practically belly crawled back to the antenna tower I climbed up! Was a valuable lesson for how such a gritty surface can get so slippery. I'll NEVER walk a snow covered roof, and think twice when there is moisture on one with ambient temperature dropping!

Back on topic...

I agree with Gerry, local judgement in snow regions.

Hmmm … makes me wonder what they do with vent terminations in mountainous regions with heavy snow loads … like 10 foot snow load or more for some areas of the Rockies. Anybody know?
