Ok, I give. I for the life of me cannot find where it states that ABS needs to be painted when exposed to the sun when penetrating a roof as a vent stack. Can anyone enlighten me, thanks

From what I have seen over the year, pvc pipe dose not have to be painted, but, aesthetically obtrusive, so most plumbers use black PVC coming out of the roof or it gets painted for aesthetic reasons only.
Some one could correct me on this if it is different in their territory.

Marcyl:
PVC is white and ABS is black. PVC needs to be protected from sunlight or it will breakdown. ABS is black and it thereby proctected. The same reason tires are black.
