Summary: Stay ahead of the new Beagle.AC virus by updating your anti-virus definitions and not opening unexpected attachments, even from people you know. If you don’t have anti-virus software, scan your computer for free at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

There's a new virus/worm out there called "Beagle" (the most notable variant called "Beagle.AC"). Typically this virus will have no subject line and may look like it came from someone you know (including Nick or me). Most variations of the message will have the text "new price" in them, and then possibly a password for the attached file. Attachment names will include:
  • 08_price.zip
  • new__price.zip
  • new_price.zip
  • newprice.zip
  • price.zip
  • price_08.zip
  • price_new.zip
  • price2.zip
Once the virus installs itself on your computer, it will scan your computer for address book files and stored web pages. It will extract every e-mail address it can from those files, and send itself out to them.

Make sure your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date (using the update function that came with your anti-virus software), and don't open attachments you're not expecting, even if they're from someone you know.
