For those who have not seen a Wadsworth panel here is one that I removed today.

The above panel looks like a 'sub' but was not wired as such. I believe it is tapped off of the main disconnect. I will get pictures Monday when I go back.

Here is the outside.

Note: the nest that a bird built in two days because I was to lazy to put this cover on.

Ahhhhh the good ole Wadsworth. Haven’t seen one of them for a while. Actually in it’s day it twasn’t too bad of a panel…at least it was better than the infamous FPE. I wish I had a pic of the one I seen the other day. It wasn’t a Wadsworth or even a FPE. It was a home made concoction actually. It was set up like the old lead fuses but this guy had thhn soldered in places to act as fuses. The wire size seemed to vary from about a 22 gauge on up to about 16. It was functional as well but a tad dangerous for there was nothing covering it. He had a single phase of 120 coming into it and there was no main fuse. I figured he was pulling no more than 30-35 amps with the entire house energized. At first I chuckled but then I thought…how ingenious. He was an older gent and was quite proud of his accomplishment. I didn’t have the heart to insult the guy by telling him all about codes and what not…but I did tell him he needed to change the thing.

Yesterday I did just that.....changed it out and gave him a spankin new 100 amp sqd on a 240 volt 100 amp service. Was a charity thing as well. I could have charged him the normal $1350 but for some reason I didn't have the heart to do that. He got the whole upgrade at cost. When he went down to check it out, I thought he was gonna cry. ![icon_cry.gif](upload://r83gSGUzNOacIqpjVReDwcR83xZ.gif) Yet he said to me....."Nice job" and I shook his hand as I left and said, "You too".
