Not for me, but for educational purposes, for the new guys and the old.

  1. If you were on an inspection took a look at a water heater, 11 Years old and saw a flame like this within the combustion chamber, how would you write it up?

  1. Now lets say that same water heater was making a noise that sounded like boiling water, no indications the TPRV has been discharging.

Orange flame, orange flame in hot water heater.
This is happens do to dust debris in the fire chamber injectors,
Water heater is 11 years old near term,
There are sounds coming from the water heater do to sediment in the bottem inside water tank.
Recommend qualified plumber for cleaning or replacement

Water heater has improper combustion and is at the end of its serviceable life.
Average life span of water heaters in the USA is 8 to 12 years.
Recommend replacement by Licensed plumber or heating contractor.

Water heaters make noise. That orange flame is improperly burning fuel. The burner may need a cleaning.
