Water softener and water filter backwash!!

The question is what to do with the backwash from these systems?I have been told some states don’t allow you to dispose of them on the ground, and some septic people say that you shouldn’t put it into their systems.I could use all the feedback possible on this one.

The salt in the backwash water will damage concrete septic tanks and I would imagine that the bacteria in the tank will not be crazy about it either. With the strict enviromental laws today it may well be against regulations in some areas to dispose of it above ground. I will have to check into that for my own area. The only other alternative would be to send the backwash to a separate dry well.
