Anyone else see a problem with this video? They cut through all the ceiling joists that the original beam was supporting, then did not appear to use joist hangers to tie the joist ends to the new inset beam. You thoughts? https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19fSAbMLaP/
I agree. The joists appear inadequately secured to the beam. No mention if they had a PE or architect engineer that.
Well the video ended before it was finished. I have done this in the past a few times myself. I’m sure they installed joist hangers before the temp walls were removed.
Those were skilled builders, you can be sure that they put hangers on those ceiling joists to the new beam before they finished the ceiling.
Really? You’re SURE??
And NO, don’t trying pulling that BS sarcastic crap on us!
Of course I’m sure. If they didn’t the ceiling would fall once the temp walls were removed.
And what’s your problem today? Woke up on the wrong side of the bed?
Why even comment if you are going to be an ass. Don’t you have anything better to do?
This contractor has produced many videos and appears to be one of the better ones on YouTube. I am confident they would have finished adding joist hangers. One minor detail some contractors may miss is there needs to be a metal strap under each ceiling joist connecting the joist to the LVL beam to provide tension restraint. Joists hangers are designed for vertical support only.
That’s a joists hanger, vertical loads only. On a stick built gable roof the ceiling joists are in tension and typically overlapped and nailed together and to the top of an interior load bearing wall. Once separated the exterior walls will push outward.
Agree…
…
Yes, they probably just cut the video short and didn’t show attaching the hangers. Hopefully they also used “a metal strap under each ceiling joist connecting the joist to the LVL beam to provide tension restraint”. Thanks everyone for your responses. Aloha!
