What is this device? Please help

I’ve never seen this before. Does anyone know what this is and what its purpose would be?

Sorry to bother you - it is a water / gas shut off valve.

Water leak detector.

I do not see the label of an approved listing agency on the device as required by the plumbing code.

Thank you - I appreciate the input.

Thank you for the input. I think those are the only two images. I know it is a gas / water shut off valve but I didn’t think it may have to be approved. I’ll look into it.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think it has anything to do with gas? Always wanting to learn more on my end. @mwilles any input?

Thomas from what I understand these units can be put in as a water shut off only and a gas shut off attachment. If the leak is bad enough you do want to shut everything off otherwise as the water heater is leaking the burner will continue to heat the water. In a vacant building this could become a problem in a couple of days or weeks.

Thank you both! Learning experience in that I’ve never seen one either. Now I know…

Plus 99% of the water heaters I see are electric. I’m in “propane country”…
