A good many years ago (back in the day) my father would tie the tree into the corner of the living room with multiple guy wires. 'Course it was always a live tree and the lights we had had those big old porcelain (rotary) switches with cloth insulated wire and glass bulbs . The ornaments were all glass and each year we had a few breakages.

It occurred to me the other day that the reason the tree was so heavily secured, despite 5 children, was to keep the cats from knocking it over. Minor mystery solved!

Like so many things they were simply hand me downs from my grandparents. With 5 kids there wasn’t a lot of money to spread around on Christmas. If it ‘worked’ we continued to use it!

Totally understand that. I like the train BTW. Merry Christmas :christmas_tree:

@rkenney

Just got the train up! Not as antique as yours but I’ve been running it around our trees for 38 years. My mom’s BF at the time bought it for us and when he passed away, I inherited it and it’s been a fantastic tradition for everyone that I’ve been able to share it with :slight_smile:

Merry Christmas everyone!!
