I know we all take lots of pictures. Whats your “go to” camera of choice. I don’t want to use my phone for this.
Lots of topics on this over the years Joshua. If you click on the search function (magnifying glass) and type your question, you will see many threads about it. However, I’m sure folks here will chip in with their preferences. Personally, I only use my phone and tablet.
Good luck on your choice!

Here’s one of many threads I found on this subject using the search function as @tglaze mentioned.
The problem nowadays is the real lack of options in digital cameras. That industry has been heavily thinned out thanks to the ubiquity of smart phones.
You’ll have good luck finding excellent choices that are used, once you’ve narrowed down the list.
Yes, lots of information on previous posts.
I find when there are too many people at the inspection, I input very little into my phone/inspection software.
Then I really use my camera, more than I would if entering details and slotting in pictures.
The Cannon cameras with the mechanical zoom, stop working quickly with dust and debris.
The Olympus Tough series have been great and include Wifi.
Nikon Coolpix S4. Coolpix P100 for backup. Ferret pro. Go pro on a pole.
The S4 fits in my shirt pocket when not in use (so it’s not hanging off my neck). I send my reports as PDF so a lot of resolution isn’t desired in the final product.
The best approach is to shoot at the camera’s maximum resolution so you can zoom and crop for the desired image and use a bulk photo resizer to make the report images take up less space (easier to email and store).
My non-phone camera is an Insta360 X3. If I were buying today, it’d be the X4. I may just buy that one because it’s new and cool and has higher resolution ![]()
I use the 360 camera mostly for areas I can’t reach, including, but not limited to, crawlspaces, roofs(pre drywall, can’t walk) and tight spots in attics. I also use it for final-walk throughs on empty homes.
I like Cannon, SX720 for side carry (not in the attic or crawl), SX610 for camera pole w/WIFI. SX620 goes in the attic or (very rare) crawlspace. I have an Olympus Tough for backup if it is raining or I want to shoot underwater. Also Nikon and others that I don’t use, but have compared with.
Just a quick PSA. Because digital cameras are phasing out, pawn shops are an excellent place to drop in and see what they have. In my last venture out, I purchased 4 digital cameras, two of which were waterproof. My spend at the pawn shop? $55. I supplemented my purchase with more batteries etc. for an additional $100 on Amazon.
This is what I use and have always used something similar; it may be cumbersome if you’re not used to carrying. The 40X zoom comes in handy. The adjustable display also comes in handy in tight or awkward positions
This is perfect for carrying larger cameras hands (and neck) free. Camera hangs from your belt and is easily detached for shooting.
I have been using my phone for a number of years now.
I use a Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS70 camera when I need to really zoom in from a distance. It takes great pictures.
Before I started using my phone I used the Nikon coolpix and for many years I used an Olympus Tough
Whatever camera you go with be sure it’s shockproof, so it doesn’t get destroyed the first time you drop it.
Good info. I was looking for a replacement/backup a few months ago and it was incredibly expensive and/or difficult to find something on the webernet.
Everything is more expensive on duck duck. ![]()
