In NJ, you have to take a 140 hour in-class training course from a NJ approved home inspector school. You will receive your certificate from that school upon completion. And then you still need to get 40 hours in the field with a licensed home inspector who is approved by NJ.

I agree with Steve. You can find approved schools on the NJ website. NJ.gov and then go to the Department of Consumer Affairs(not Community Affairs). There is a list of schools and contact information. One school is The Home Inspection School of New Jersey. They are located in Mt. Laurel.
