After completing a ton of these wind Mits I finally get hit on a Re-Inspection. Been thru a Ton of them but never had this issue

Issue
The home is a 8 Million plus value home, company is Citizens. Upstairs there are Sonic Light tubes - Small 8" Tubes sealed units that go thru the roof and add light to the hallways. They are thick and heavy duty.

Whole house is Impact glass and I ignored the tubes as a Opening. They do not open.

Audit comes back with this is a Opening that is not rated. - Guys insurance goes up about 10K

So how do you solve this? No label on them and the attic is foamed in so can not get to the decking?

BY THE WAY I JUST GOT USE TO THE OLD FORM WHY DO WE ALWAYS SWITCH THIS FORM

If they can afford an $8 million home, they can afford $10,000 more a yr. It is the $80,000 retired homeowner that gets jacked $2000 a yr, which bothers me to the point of not being involved in mit inspections.

Not to mention the retired WWII vet getting stuck with a $3000 a year policy on a block house he paid $9000 for in 1950!!

Those sola tubes seem to be marketed in Fort Pierce as an ‘easy’ retrofit for ‘dark’ interior spaces. I cannot imagine specifying them for new construction when you could get a real, larger skylight.

p.s.–Russell, what are you smoking? How do you put a panel over a skylight on a roof?
