Wind Mit - Metal Roof Deck Nail Spacing

Recently I shadowed an inspector on a Wind Mitigation inspection, and the house had a metal roof. I found the Zircon MT6 had trouble scanning for nails because of the metal roof. Seemed to just be beeping constantly. Any advice on finding the nail spacing when the roof is metal? Or were we just using the MT6 wrong? We were able to see the spacing in some spots where they missed a few nails in a row, but don’t want to rely on that every time.

It’s the nature of the tool, it detects metal.

I wouldn’t worry too much unless your area is primarily metal roofs. Use your skill and knowledge (exposed shiners, age of roof, etc) and crawl all over the attic if you must. Sometimes they miss a ton of nails in a concentrated spot for whatever reason (Friday, beer-thirty o’clock).

The more Wind Mits you do, the more you’ll see the subtle bits.
