Wind Mitigation Masonry Glass Block

All windows and glazed doors have accordion shutters except the masonry glass block. They use 1/2 in plywood. Would that be marked as C for section 7 even though is not “all openings” ?

This doesn’t answer my question unfortunately. I’m in HVHZ in South East Florida so it must be protected. Even if its impact rated.

Yes, because they are looking for the weakest level of protection. The wording on the 2012 form could have been clearer. The 2025 draft of the form is clearer. The 2025 form was supposed to go into effect January 1st but, of course, that didn’t happen.

If you read the form it states, “based on the lowest protection level for all Glazed openings”. So if the block is covered with plywood, then “C” is the letter checked for all.

It all starts with BC, which BC are you? FBC or SFBC? in FBC true glass block that is mortared in like block is considered CMU and therefore, is not required to be protected nor is it included as a glazed opening.

@nkemp Megan is correct. Outside of the HVHZ mortared glass block is not required to be covered by an impact rated device. Inside the HVHZ it is. Hopefully that helps! We will also be covering this and more at the upcoming SUNachi meeting. Hope to see you there!
