Workmanship is subjective and unenforceable.

I believe that it is enforceable however, I would never want to defend calling it out.
Workmanship is subjective but within limits. It is difficult, but not impossible, to win a case based on workmanship. We settle most cases out of court. The contractors usually know they provided substandard work and don’t want to put their fate in the hands of a sympathetic magistrate, judge, or jury.
I don’t think there is a legitimate grievance here though. It would cost much less to clean things up than to fight over it.
