Loose ground connection
Question is why would do this? Do you not own a proper tester or did you see the light and then decide to investigate.
What is a proper tester?
SURETEST or a SPERRY TESTER.
The problem with a digital multimeter is it has a very high input impedance.
If you want accurate AC voltage readings you need to load the circuit.
Plug in a lamp and try it again.

Meter problem
It is a DVM not an analog
This is referred to as phantom voltages due to the low impedances of the meter
Use a solenoid type meter and it goes away
Sure AFTER the poor guy asked for it.

And it’s high input impedance.
