I understand galvanized nails should not be used on a wood roof. Can someone confirm this for me? As I understand it the galv. nails will corrode resulting in loose and missing shingles?

Thank you.

I believe that is not true. Nails that are aluminum, double-dipped galvanized or stainless steel (the most expensive choice) work well on cedar.

The use of plain steel nails will corrode and also the natural reaction of iron oxide with the cedar and water will create ugly dark stains on the siding.

Galvanized nails should not be used with Treated Wood (Stainless steel only)
