Wood siding question

I see a lot of houses, around here, with rough wooden siding, usually painted or stained with a latex stain.

The usual checking, knots and nail pops (round nails?)

What I usually tell the client is that wooden siding, especially rough hewn, requires a good deal of maintenance (scraping, priming, painting, etc) and that if they want to avoid this that they should consider a 'spray on siding' application. One of my friends did this and was given a lifetime warranty.

Any experience with this product? What is the prer work like? Do they last.

Any help greatly apprieciated.

In my area the lifetime guaranty is only good for the life of the application company. Them seem to change company names every three to five years.
