New guy again ![]()
I’m in jamaica and although I don’t know their sop, I do know, it’s amazing how water blows wood up. This pic of water damage was crazy to me because the wood is a completely different size now ( no measurement tool) just visual!!!
Water saturates and expands. Drying and wetting cycles exacerbate the problem. Corroded fasteners also compromise the material.
Evening, Jason.
I think the narrative, water blows wood up is mistaken.
Wood is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs and releases water vapor from the surrounding air.
Wood is a porous material with a complex cellular structure that allows water to be absorbed into the cell walls and hollow spaces. The amount of water absorbed, or released, depends on the relative humidity, air temperature, and the current moisture content of the wood or MC moisture content. Wood swells when it absorbs moisture and shrinks when it off sets moisture or dries.
Proper Maintenance has a lot to do with baseboard moldings and location therein. The damaged baseboard molding are next to the exterior door and wall assembly. Likely a piece of damaged wood was replaced with a piece that was not the exact same size. Just my 2 cents.
Hey Robert, I think you’re right. The water has blown the heck out of that wood!
My new narrative. Water “blown the heck” out of that whatsyoumaycallit…
Thanks, Anthony. Almost let that one slip away.
