WTF Picture of the Day

Must have had some left over downspout on the truck that needed used.

Lol!! And it’s going to let all that radon into the gutter so it can go down the downspout and seep back into the ground again… :stuck_out_tongue:

That one came with pencil marks all over most of the walls drawing contour lines, showing the waves from a handheld energy meter of some sort.

RE: Over-driven nails.

Without resistance, i.e. shot into the air, a nail will naturally be over-driven by a properly set nail gun.

This is to be expected. If you’ve ever roofed a home, and I have, and the gun is set on max, this will happen, often, when they don’t use chalk lines. It’s why you don’t let anyone linger about in the attic(or basement for that matter) while you’re dropping decking as they may catch one in the dome. Those same nails will be just fine when they land properly, perhaps a little over-driven but it depends on the rafters. Sometimes older rafters require you to crank up the pressure/setting.

Ever been on-site while the decking is going down? You’ll often hear someone not using the gun call it out “MISS!”. It’s ball busting, but it’s also makes a better home, when he re-shoots.

It took a lot of work to improperly terminate that TPR extension pipe through the brick and outside of the house.

The landscape rock preventing soils from splashing on the house was a nice touch though.

What is your specific concern? And where is the drip sediment traping dirt leg?

No concerns, it was just wrong. :grinning:

Actually, if it was my house I’d be concerned with the almost constant flow of water due to the failed TPR valve jacking my bill up, dumping water along side of the foundation, and with it potentially freezing closed.

The lack of drip pan underneath the WH and the lack of a drip leg :+1: in the NG line were other defects that I wrote up. :flying_saucer:

1400 sq ft ranch on a slab. Sounded easy. SMH

That configuration is very common in my area, hence my question. I now see the wet soil…that is a problem!

I found that the one’s that sound easy are usually the worst!

Luckily there was a renter there and said it was fine to push the button. He did, not me. This puppy was swinging all over the place when in use.

That’s a lot of truss modification and work for a garage door opener installation. I have to admit, the homemade gusset plates looked great. :grinning:

But it was not fine to say, light a cigarette, or have an oil spill catch fire. That spray foam is like a solid form of gasoline.

OMG. That one takes the cake, and is hereby nominated for the annual
WTF awards ceremony and prize giveaway. Going so far out of your way to do it completely wrong so well?

Those trusses are now toast. The rafters are now there to support the load on their own.
Hope they don’t get 2’ of snow on the roof.

Rental housing.

Took almost as much time to write the sign, as it would have to reverse the hoses, eh?

What’s wrong in this picture? 11 unit multifamily.

Gut remodel?

With termites. Can’t say I found any electrical, mechanical or plumbing problems. Or, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing systems. And the roof was had no defects, so to speak. But hey it was a mighty nice foundation, at least the new parts.

I’ll bet I can find at least a dozen places with sealant separation. They could be acrobats and practice defenestration with those windows on the left, so I’m going to recommend monitoring on those.

Jokes aside, I know where I used to live(NJ) if you kept the walls up and didn’t change the footprint, the rules for building were different i.e. you could use the original code book for the structure. The mechanicals and such had to be updated though.

Of course they’d replace the walls, one by one and when you were done, the entire structure was new, but the AHJ didn’t seem to care.
