You see this what do you do?

You get an inspection and walk up to this. What do you do?

For one, if this is not a joke thread, the client should have advised you there was a fire.
Lets say for the sake of the tread this was a bonified inspection agreement.

The first thing I would do is:
1: Check the map to insure I was at the right address. If so,
2: Call the client post haste. If the client can not be contacted.
3: I would knock on doors to see if the fire happened overnight. If the fire did not happen overnight.
4: I would proceed with the inspection while trying to contact the client.
5: Once back in the office I would await until I contacted the client to proceed with writing a report.

Just my 2 cents.

See if you can find out when the fire happened. Go home. Fire investigators and insurance companies have their own people. If the fire happened before you were scheduled you were played.

:joy: thanks guys. This was an asbestos inspection I did last week. I was aware of the fire. Structural engineer confirmed the site unsafe. Will be demo’d with an excavator.

Easiest inspection I’ve ever done. Identify (what is left of) the materials and recommended further evaluation of all aspects of every system… then cash the check!

I have inspected fired properties.

Been there. I once got an assignment to do a flood damage assessment at a property in Union Beach NJ right after Superstorm Sandy. Showed up to inspect, and this was all that was left.

Ask the neighbors if they need professional inspection services…

Morning Darren.
Hope this post finds you well.
I to have inspected properties that have flooded, to one degree or another. A dike-levee ruptured in Ste-Marthe-sur-le-Lac near the island of Montreal April 28, 2019. I fished that area for >< 2 decades.
Flooding 2021 - in Pierrefonds-Roxboro - Montreal.

Bob Kenney is correct in stating, “Fire investigators and insurance companies have their own people,” but smart individuals, retain someone independent as well to insure the damaged is properly assessed and repairs are properly completed.

Best regards.
