Just did this one. Kitchen juts from the house. Notice the lean, then notice the two cracks in the cupboards on each side of the kitchen where they meet the existing walls.

I found this wall deflection on a 11 month warranty inspection. Builder later took off the drywall cover and found the header twisting in place from drying, pulling the wall studs and all with it. You can see the patch area the home owners had done to fix the cracking in the drywall previously and thought it was “normal” settlement surface cracking since it was a new home.

yea ridge board 2 inches short classic “use what you have”.

Three year old home. Main beam had warped so that the right edge of the beam was now where the left edge used to be. They ended up replacing a 12 foot section of the beam. Gotta love that green lumber.

  1. 125 year old home, load bearing wall resting on stone rubble and rock.

  2. Same house built up rim joists, rot, wood/soil contact.

It has not always been required that the ridge be as wide or wider. What is the age of this home?

Funny you should ask. I ran across this today. The house, the chimney, or both are shifting.
