Here’s a zoomed picture…You can see where the rafters were “poorly” sistered together.

That is definitely a shoddy rafter reinforcement. I’ve seen many sistered joists and rafters with the same size member simply attached at the damaged area only, which is indicative of a homeowner fix.

People don’t realize that a sistered member must be installed from one bearing end to the other. Not applied alongside the damaged area only.

God gave most of us brains for a reason.
