Attic Ventilation with spray foam

WOW you’re not kidding! They gutted most all of subsection 5.2. Any idea why they did that? There were no notes in the free view version of the adopted 2018 IRC for GA.

Just make sure The Home was designed for a conditioned attic, Meaning that it has provisions for getting rid of bad Air that is developed in a home (Bad meaning Humidity, cooking odors, body odors…A “too tight” of a home can be a problem. Most homes designed for airtight systems (foam/ conditioned attics) will have a mechanical system to bring in and exhaust air.

If an insulation guy just sold the contractor on Spray Foam after original design touting the energy savings… look out a couple ways to tell may be is the HVAC duct insulated? (meaning the HVAC guys were not let in on this being a conditioned attic, Now the heat loss calc. is all screwed up.) or if the roof actually has vents but are now sealed by the foam. I have run across this twice this year on new construction…

I do not know why they removed the section.

I found this once in new construction as well a few years back. The builder stated the supply chain was backed up and the original batt insulation was not available so they went forward with foam.
